Go with Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy is used to help with muscle recovery, joint pain, tissue healing, and also reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It helps increase collagen levels, blood circulation, increase cellular energy, helps with weight loss, and pet's joint inflammation too. Red light therapy is also known to help reduce anxiety and get better sleep. We aren’t going to get to all these in this blog post, but I will try to cover as much as I can, and hopefully you can do further investigation on your own.

My last blog I talked about the benefits of myofascial release, and I want to take it a step further. Red light therapy can help in so many ways, and I use it for a few reasons.

The first is joint pain and healing. I have issues with my neck and back from stenosis and over the years; herniations, bulges of the discs and recently meniscus knee surgery. I use red light therapy for healing, pain relief, injury recovery and muscle recovery.

There are several types of red light therapy treatments and several forms they come in.

Let me start with the different levels:

660 nm Wavelength Red Light:

Helps with healing wounds

Collagen production

Improves the appearance of the skin

850 nm Wavelength Red Light:

Helps with muscle recovery

Decreases inflammation

Joint pain relief

Weight loss

You can use a combination of the wavelengths and several levels of light, and strobe light if you are heat sensitive. Each comes with directions and suggests starting off with a short session at the lowest level. I like to use the (ALL) and worked my way up to level 3 on my belt at night before bed for 15 to 20 minutes and if I have time when I wake up in the morning run it up my spine to the neck for 10-20 minutes. It feels great to start my day, especially before my morning workout. Throughout the Blog I will have all the different types of Red Light Therapy Items, and you will be able to just click on the picture and go directly to the link to order on Amazon.

There are several types. My favorites are the belt and the standing lamp. My massage therapist puts the standing red light on while he works on me, and it feels great especially since he does deep tissue massages.

The belt works several ways. You can use it while in bed, at work, watching tv and it is easy to travel with. It works on muscle recovery, joint and muscle pain, skin rejuvenation and weight loss. You can lay on it, wrap it around different body parts, hips, waist, thighs, shoulders and lay it over you. I lay it on my knees sometimes. I started on the lowest level for 5 minutes around my hips and now I am up to level 3 for 20 minutes.a few times a week.

The lamp is great too. It comes with eye protection. The lamp can cover your body. You can sit under it while watching TV or working. You can put your face under it or concentrate it on areas of your body and more than one person can sit under it. You can get lamps with one or more heads that are adjustable and move to different heights.

Wall Panels, Pads and Mats are another way to go with Red Light Therapy. These come in all sizes. There are large ones that can be hung on a wall, and are more for commercial use. Smaller ones come in several sizes and with stands. They can be used on counters, tables and desks. The smaller ones are good for travel. Mats and Pads come in a multitude of sizes.

There are also Red Light bulbs you can buy that may fit in a desk top lamp.

There are so many items out there, and the last one I want to tell you about is one that I recently started using and that is a Red Light Cupping device. It is great to use for Myofascial release but is being advertised for reducing cellulite. I have been using it on my legs, glutes and back to reduce inflammation and soreness. I have received great results with it. I have used it in the studio on my clients shoulders and on my other trainer's back. They have seen results with it.

Red Light Therapy can be used for so much good. I have not even covered all its uses and all the devises. My next purchase will be the face mask. Hopefully you will find the benefits from Red Light Therapy that I have.
